The New York Knicks and Sigmund Freud

The other night I was fortunate to see the Knicks win at Madison Square Garden against the Detroit Pistons. All I can say is that it was an amazing game and the Knicks have an enormus amount of potential.

Hopefully Larry Brown can help the guys believe in system and next year they should make the playoffs, however, with or without Stephon Marbury.

Mobile devices and Apple Computer

Only a Matter of Time

Sometime in the second half of this year, I am predicting that Apple Computer will release a touch-screen smart phone that will revolutionize and expand the current concept of mobile devices.

The price point of a mobile phone versus an ipod should not be a problem, the phone would not have the memory of an ipod but would come loaded with the state of art operating system that currently runs on all mac computers. Yes, a killer device indeed.

Art Fair: New York

Here are a couple of pictures from the international art fair that I attended this past weekend. The artist whose name was along side this photo was Marina Abramovic. Check out Art Comments for my favorite picture from the show.

Microsoft Joke/Quote

More Technology, More Problems

"If Microsoft made cars, the joke goes, they would crash twice a day, need regular upgrades and have to be replaced every time the lines on the roads were repainted." - James Mackintosh, Financial Times

No, Microsoft is not planning to make cars but they plan to make inroads - no pun intended - in the car industry that will allow cars to run their windows operating system so that people can access the internet and other things.

The New York Knicks Report

New York, New York and Basketball

"You cannot direct what you cannot control." -John Chaney, Temple University Basketball coach.

To put it rather simply, things are not looking good for the Knicks. Yes, I know that some may say that that is obvious when looking at their record but the won-loss column does not always reflect the current value or future value of a team. But when a team losses due to not following directions of their coach, then that's a bigger problem. It doesn't matter who is on the team, all-stars or whatever, if the coach is not in charge then it is anarchy.

The other night after a loss to the Chicago Bulls, Larry Brown told reporters that he called 4 set plays for his team to run in the closing minutes and that they didn't follow his direction. First of all, why is he telling the reporters this bit of information, if anything, he should be communicating to his players that they did not follow his directions and he should try to assess: did they just belligerently not run the play he called, was there miscommunication on the floor in the final minutes and that's why the players opted to improvise, or did the players falsely think that they were running the right play?

We live in a society that offers critiques too quick and unjustly and on my blogs you will hardly ever hear any negative comments about anything but I am rather tired of Larry Brown playing the abused wife role complaining to reporters about today's players. The players not listening to him is not necessarily a reflection of the modern rebellious player - since the founding of sports there has always been either players who listen to their coach and who play as directed or players who simply belong to the mutiny camp - but a reflection that the commander has lost control of the ship and he should either resign or simply get rid of the guys who are at the root of the problem. At the same time, he might simply want to to deal with these possible mutinous situations internally instead of complaining to the local reporters.

Cafe Mozart in New York

Live at Cafe Mozart

Last night I ate at this great cafe in Manhattan called Cafe Mozart. Below are some pictures of some of their desert offerings. This is a great spot to catch some live jazz or classical music during the week while either eating a full course meal or just enjoying some desert.

I mentioned this cafe in another blog: Art Comments. If you are in the city and you happen to check it out, write back and let me know how you enjoyed it.

After the Party, New York City

The other night here in New York, I had a wonderful time despite the cold weather, and I took this photo after an event held at Carnegie Hall. This shot is of a mall/headquarters/residence/Jazz Hall(more on that later) located in Columbus Circle, which is about 2 blocks north of Carnegie Hall in Manhattan.
